The ball dahlia is a type of dahlia that is characterized by its round, ball-shaped blooms. These petals of the ball dahlias are rolled up, it looks stunning. They have a unique symmetrical shape. The flowers of the ball dahlia are also edible and can be used in salads or cooked as a vegetable. The leaves, stems, and tubers are all edible as well.

These flowers are native to Mexico and Central America, and they were first introduced to Europe in the 18th century. Ball dahlias come in a wide range of colours, including yellow, orange, red and pink.

Planting ball dahlias

Frist, choose the ball dahlia or dahlias you want to plant. Around mid-May or June, you can plant the dahlia tubers. Make sure that you plant the dahlia tubers at a place with full sun.

When it’s time to plant your ball dahlia, make a hole that deep, that the tip of the tuber is 2-3 centimetres (0,8- 1,2 inches) below the surface. Plant the tubers around 40-50 centimetres (15,5 – 19,5 inches) apart from each other. This gives them enough space to grow. After planting the dahlias.
