This flower is one of our favourites, both for its colour combination and its fragrant flower clusters.

Stunning in a vase and easy to combine with everything. We could try to describe the colours of Phlox Grandiflora Creme Brulee, but in this case, the photo says more than a thousand words.

Keep cutting regularly, and the plants will keep blooming until the frost. This flower also does wonderfully in a pot!

This annual summer bloomer is also known as “vlambloem” (flame flower) in Dutch, likely due to the fiery red colour of the wild variety.

    1 bag ≈ 0.37 grams ≈ 150 seeds

    Tips

    When to sow Phlox?

    • Indoor sowing: From February–March for an early start
    • Direct outdoor sowing: From April–May, once all risk of frost has passed

    Sowing method

    • Sowing depth: Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep. Phlox seeds are dark germinators, so cover with a thin layer of soil.
    • Germination temperature: 18–21°C
    • Germination time: Usually 7–21 days
    • Spacing: Keep 20–30 cm between plants for good air circulation

    Location and soil

    • Light: Full sun to partial shade (in hot climates, light afternoon shade is recommended)
    • Soil: Moist, well-drained soil rich in organic matter

    Phlox care

    • Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist, especially during dry spells
    • Deadheading: Remove spent blooms regularly to extend flowering and keep plants tidy
    • Pinching: Pinch young shoots to encourage bushier growth and more flowers

    Harvest and maintenance

    • Cut flowers: Harvest regularly for bouquets to encourage continuous blooming
    • Extended flowering: Keep removing faded flowers— with proper care, phlox can flower for months

    Extra tips

    • Pots and containers: Phlox grows well in pots. Choose containers with drainage holes and use airy, well-draining potting soil
    • Feeding: Apply a liquid fertilizer occasionally during the growing season for richer flowering
    • Disease prevention: Ensure good spacing to reduce fungal issues, especially in wet weather

How many seeds per square metre?

    • Each packet contains enough seeds for about 1 m² of flowers (depending on variety and mature plant size).
    • Tip: Don’t sow everything at once. Stagger sowing to extend the bloom season and keep a backup if the first round is less successful.
    • One seed can grow into a full plant—give seedlings enough room.
    • Store seeds in a cool, dry place: they remain viable for 2–3 years.
