Parrot tulips from FAM Flower Farm
"Parrot tulips are a piece of art for your garden border or cutting garden. Shipped straight from our family farm to your home."
Parrot tulips are truly marvelous. With their twisted and fringed petals and stunning colors, they look like a painting. It’s no surprise this flower was named bulb of the year in 2013. The artistic parrot tulip will definitely get you in the mood for spring.
Origin of parrot tulips
Back in the 17th century during the 'tulip mania', parrot tulips were already hugely popular. They were often featured in paintings. Even after they finish blooming, parrot tulips remain captivating. Their name comes from their parrot-like bright colors. Parrot tulips can be a single or multicolored, and their centers feature beautifully contrasting black stamens.
Types of parrot tulips
The beloved two-tone parrot tulip Ad Rem Parrot produces impressively large flowers. Its coloring shifts from orange to a light orange edge, and the outer petals take on a pink tone.
The parrot tulip Blushing Parrot is brand new and available exclusively from us. This tulip features fresh cream-white petals with a soft pink blush.
The orange parrot tulip Avignon Parrot grows taller than 45 cm. This tulip rises above the rest, both literally and figuratively.
How can a tulip grow so uniquely?
Unlike many tulips that are created by breeders, the parrot tulip is a gift from nature. This unique tulip variety came about through spontaneous mutations of a regular tulip.
Tulips come in many shapes and colors
Ordering tulip bulbs
In addition to parrot tulips, we offer many other tulip varieties, including single and double tulips, fringed and non-fringed. Our collection includes tulips in all kinds of colors like red, pink, white, orange and even black tulips. Whatever your favorite colour may be, you’ll find it at FAM Flower Farm.
Ordering tulip bulbs
From July 1st to early December, tulip bulbs are available at FAM Flower Farm. Our tulip bulbs are grown at our own family farm in Lisse and shipped when it's time to plant them, from October to mid-December. Did you know we also offer other flower bulbs and flower seeds? Check out our narcissus bulbs and dahlia tubers.
When do parrot tulips bloom?
Just like other tulips, parrot tulips bloom from April to May. The exact timing varies each year. It’s important to plant the bulbs in the fall, as tulip bulbs need cold to bloom. Be sure not to plant after December 15th, when it’s too cold for the bulbs to root. Once blooming, bees will naturally find their way to your stunning garden.
