Tips
You can start sowing cucurbita indoors in the greenhouse from late April. If temperatures allow, you can sow directly outdoors from mid-May. Make sure the soil temperature at sowing depth is around 18°C at sowing and for the following week. This encourages quick germination and prevents fungal and bacterial diseases. The ideal germination temperature is 22°C.
How many seeds do you need per square meter?
Each packet contains enough seeds for about 1 square meter of flowers. This varies by species, so consider the mature size of the plants. A handy tip: don’t sow all at once. Spread sowing over several sessions. This extends the flowering season and gives you a backup if the first sowing doesn’t go well. A single seed can grow into a full plant, so give seeds enough space to develop. Store seeds in a cool, dry place to keep them viable for 2 to 3 years.
How much sun do annual flowers need?
Annuals bloom best in full sun, with at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. The more sun hours – ideally over 8 – the faster and more abundant the bloom. In shady spots, flowering may be limited.
Planting instructions:
- Moisten the soil so seeds can adhere well.
- Cover seeds with a thin layer of soil; see the seed packet or product details for planting depth per species.
- Use fertile, well-draining soil.
- Place seeds in a sunny location and protect them from strong wind. Support plants if needed.
- Water regularly and remove weeds.
