Brassica Empire Antonina
Empire Antonina are ornamental cabbages with leaves that fade from white to green, developing a light purple blush at the centre. The round leaves form a compact rosette, somewhat resembling roses.
They have an exceptionally long vase life and, unlike many other cabbage varieties, they have a mild scent.

Tips
When to sow Brassica
Outdoor sowing: In spring, once the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed sufficiently.
Sowing method
Sowing density: Sow at a density of 80 seeds per square meter.
Sowing depth: Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep in well-draining soil.
Soil moisture: Keep the soil lightly moist during germination without letting it get too wet.
Location and soil
Light: Full sun for optimal growth and leaf color development.
Soil: Well-drained, fertile soil with plenty of nutrients. Add compost for extra nourishment.
Care
Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods, but avoid waterlogging.
Thinning: If seedlings grow too close together, thin them out to encourage strong, healthy plants.
Feeding: Provide extra nutrients, especially during the growth phase, to support sturdy leaves and vibrant color.
Growing period
After 14–16 weeks, the plant develops strong foliage and sturdy stems.
Extra tips
Harvest time: Plants are at their most beautiful in autumn when cooler temperatures intensify the colors.
Combining: Brassica pairs well with autumn flowers like dahlias and ornamental grasses for a rich color palette.
Pests: Watch for caterpillars and aphids; check the leaves regularly and remove pests by hand or use a biological pesticide.
How many seeds do you need per square meter?
Each packet contains enough seeds for approximately 1 square meter of flowers. This may vary by species, so consider the mature size of the plants. A helpful tip: don’t sow all at once. Stagger sowing to extend the flowering season and have a backup if the first sowing fails. A single seed can grow into a full plant, so provide enough space. Store your seeds in a cool, dry place – they remain viable for 2 to 3 years.
