Tips
Characteristics of Ranunculus:
- Long flowering period of 6–8 weeks with proper care.
- Excellent as cut flowers with a vase life of 10–14 days.
- Suitable for planting in the garden, pots, or a greenhouse.
- Not fully winter-hardy, but can tolerate light frost down to -3°C.
- Tubers can be stored and replanted after flowering – a long-term investment in garden joy.
Planting Instructions:
Ranunculus benefit from a cold start to develop strong roots and ensure abundant blooming. They grow best when the soil temperature stays between 5–10°C during the first stage. Light frost (-3°C) is tolerated, but protect the plants with fleece or mulch during hard frost.
Planting in autumn (for early spring bloom):
- When? Late September to November.
- Where? In a cool greenhouse or outdoors in mild climates.
- Important: Keep soil temperature below 15°C during root development.
Planting in spring (for summer bloom):
- When? February to April.
- Where? Start in a cool greenhouse and transplant outdoors once frost is no longer a risk – or plant directly outside if there’s no danger of severe frost.
- Important: Begin at 5–10°C and ensure ambient temperatures stay below 20°C once the plants emerge.
