Tips
Potatoes grown from seed require careful attention at the start of the sowing process, but once the seedlings are transplanted, they develop into beautiful flowering plants that also produce potatoes. A wonderful challenge for the enthusiastic gardener!
Sowing: Sow from February to May in seed trays or pots at a temperature of 16 to 20°C. Maintaining this temperature is especially important in the first days after sowing.
From mid-May, after hardening off the seedlings, they can be transplanted. Transplant before tubers start to form. This can be done outdoors in the ground, but also in pots or potato bags. Growing is best done on half ridges or beds, with soil mounding during the growing season.
Plant spacing is 20 cm, with 60 cm between ridges.
Harvest: Potatoes can be harvested 100 to 120 days after transplanting the seedlings. For the largest yield, wait until the plants begin to yellow and die back. Harvesting is done the same way as with seed potatoes. Using a fork is the easiest way to keep the potatoes clean and undamaged.
