Iceland Poppy (1.000x) Colibri Sherbet Mix
The Iceland Poppy Colibri Sherbet Mix produces paper-like flowers in soft shades of apricot, pink, and white – an enchanting sight you’ll never tire of. Blooming from early spring well into summer, Iceland Poppy Colibri Sherbet Mix is a valuable addition to your cutting garden. While most poppies are not ideal for vases, these have a vase life of up to 5–7 days. Technically, they are hardy perennials that can survive even the harshest winters, but they are often grown as annuals or biennials. Perfect for a summer garden full of color and fragrance!
1 pack = 1,000 seeds
Harvest the flowers when the buds are just starting to crack open. Once fully open, they become more sensitive to weather and handling, so regular picking is recommended. For the longest vase life, sear the cut ends briefly with an open flame or dip them in boiling water for 7 to 10 seconds. You’ll see the ends change in color and texture. Treated this way, the stems can last 5 to 7 days in a vase.
One packet contains approximately 1.000 seeds.

Tips
Sowing methods
There are two ways to sow Iceland Poppy ‘Colibri Sherbet Mix’.
As an annual: start indoors 8 to 12 weeks before the last expected frost date.
As a biennial: sow indoors in late summer and transplant the seedlings outside in autumn.
Use seed trays filled with fine, sterile seed compost. The seeds are very small, so sprinkle them thinly on the surface of moist soil and cover lightly, as they need light to germinate. Cover the trays with a transparent lid or plastic wrap to maintain high humidity. Place the trays in a warm spot (around 21°C). Germination usually occurs within 5 to 7 days. Once seedlings appear, remove the cover and move them to a cool, bright location such as an unheated greenhouse or a cool, well-lit room. When seedlings have developed their first true leaves, carefully transplant them into individual pots or larger cells. After the last frost, plant them outdoors in a sunny location with well-drained soil, spacing them about 23 cm apart.
Cut flower use
Harvest the flowers just as the buds begin to open. To extend vase life, dip the ends of the stems in boiling water for 7 to 10 seconds or sear them with a flame right after cutting. This helps seal the sap and prolongs vase life to about 5 to 7 days.
How many seeds do you need per square meter?
Each packet contains enough seeds for approximately 1 square meter of flowers. This may vary by variety, so consider the mature size of the plants. A handy tip: don’t sow everything at once. Stagger your sowing to extend the blooming season and have a backup if the first attempt is less successful. One seed can grow into a full plant, so allow enough space. Store your seeds in a cool, dry place – they’ll remain viable for 2 to 3 years.
How much sun do annual flowers need?
Annuals bloom best in full sun, with at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. But the more sun – ideally more than 8 hours – the faster and more profuse the blooming. In shady spots, blooming may be limited.
Planting instructions:
- Moisten the soil so the seeds stick well.
- Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil – check planting depth per variety on the back of the packet or on this page.
- Use fertile, well-drained soil.
- Provide a sunny spot and protect the plants from strong wind. Support them if needed.
- Water regularly and remove weeds.
