Daucus Carota Dara
One of our favourites is this dark Daucus.
Daucus Carota Dara features attractive umbels that are white before opening, fade to pink when open, and turn burgundy as the flower head closes.
It attracts a wide range of insects. Bees and butterflies will thank you!
Daucus Carota Dara is an ideal cut flower for the cutting garden. Its unique colour makes it a valuable addition to any border, bouquet, and dried bouquet.
This annual summer bloomer is also known as wild carrot in the Netherlands.

Tips
Daucus Carota 'Dara' should be sown in autumn or, at the latest, early April, directly into the soil. The seeds germinate best in cold temperatures. Be careful – the seedlings initially resemble grass.
How many seeds do you need per square meter?
Each packet contains enough seeds for approximately 1 square meter of flowers. This can vary by variety, so take the mature plant size into account. A helpful tip: don’t sow all at once. Stagger your sowings to extend the blooming season and have a backup if the first attempt is less successful. One seed can grow into a full plant, so make sure they have enough room. Store your seeds in a cool, dry place – they’ll stay viable for 2 to 3 years.
How much sun do annual flowers need?
Annuals bloom best in full sun, with at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. But the more sun – ideally over 8 hours – the faster and more abundantly they’ll bloom. In shaded spots, blooming may be limited.
Planting instructions:
- Moisten the soil so the seeds adhere well.
- Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil – check the planting depth per variety on the back of the packet or on this page.
- Use fertile, well-drained soil.
- Place the seeds in a sunny spot and protect them from strong wind. Support the plants if needed.
- Water regularly and remove weeds.
