Daffodils

The daffodil (narcis) is often seen as the first sign of spring. In our range you will find different types of narcissus bulbs such as yellow, white and orange daffodils. You can also choose between single or double daffodils. The single daffodils are popular with butterflies and bees.

When to plant daffodils?

If you are going to plant a daffodil, make sure the bulb gets a sunny spot. This way you can enjoy the beautiful flowers again each spring.

Daffodils are winter-hardy flowers that love cold and frost. To ensure they bloom beautifully, we recommend planting the bulbs in autumn (between October and December). Just make sure you do this before 15 December so the bulbs have enough time to form roots before severe frost begins. Our narcissus bulbs are large in size, so you can count on full and beautiful daffodils in spring.

The advantage of daffodils is that they come back and bloom by themselves every year without you having to do anything!

How to plant daffodils?

In the wild daffodils can be found in grasslands. For a natural effect, you can scatter the daffodil bulbs around your garden or plant them in large groups. It is important that the soil drains well because daffodils do not like wet feet.

Loosen the soil and plant the bulbs with the point facing upwards. Cover them with earth, press lightly and you’re done! All the nutrients needed are already in the bulb so it can hardly go wrong. Of course we also provide a detailed planting guide when you order our flower bulbs.

Daffodil flowering time

Every spring daffodils bloom in the months of March and April. Tourists from around the world and from within the country come to Lisse to admire the world-famous flower fields. But why travel when you can grow these lovely flowers in your own garden?

Caring for daffodils

Daffodils are easy to maintain. Make sure they get regular water when it is dry. This perennial plant will bloom again each year so it is important to care for the narcissus bulbs after they have finished blooming. Snip off the spent flower stems but leave the foliage. It is essential to give the daffodil leaves a chance to turn yellow before you remove them as this promotes healthy bulb growth for next year.

The foliage from the flower bulb is an important source of nutrients for the bulb and ensures it can bloom beautifully again next year. When the foliage has fully turned yellow you can prune it away. The bulbs can remain in the ground during winter, optionally covered with leaves from the garden.
