Three truly special flower bulbs
"After reading this blog, you'll know exactly which flower bulbs are truly special. You'll discover where to plant them so they stand out most, and which flowers they pair beautifully with."
But what makes a flower bulb special? We believe it's all about what catches the eye. Some bulbs have a striking appearance, a fascinating history or are simply very rare. These unique bulbs make a real difference in your garden, especially because you won’t find them in every flower bed. Your friends and family will be amazed when they see such extraordinary blooms. They add that little something extra — a unique twist that turns your garden into something unforgettable.
2. A tulip with a story
"Paul Scherer, the one and only black tulip"
This tulip comes with a truly special past. Once upon a time, the elusive “black tulip” did not exist. This caused great frustration among Dutch growers. For years, they tried to create the impossible. At last, in 1895, grower Jan Jacob Grullemans succeeded. His creation even inspired the famous novel La Tulipe Noire. Although not truly black, Paul Scherer shows a very deep, dark purple colour. It is a must-have for history lovers and for anyone who enjoys adding a touch of drama to their garden.
Combination tip: Combine it with the pure white tulip 'Cricko' for a strong contrast or with the soft pink tulip 'Dynasty' for a gentle light and dark effect.
Perfect spot: Tulips thrive in full sun but also do well in partial shade. We recommend creating a dedicated section in your garden for planting, which gives a much more impressive effect than spreading the tulips throughout.
1. The sweetest-smelling narcissus of all
“Mmm… that scent — it must be spring!”
If you think narcissus bulbs only bloom in yellow, think again. There are many beautiful variations, including single and double-flowered varieties. One of the most elegant is Narcissus 'Bridal Crown' — a double bloom in fresh, soft white. But what truly makes this narcissus unforgettable is its fragrance. It smells like spring in its sweetest form. In fact, we believe it’s the most deliciously scented narcissus out there.
Pick a few stems for a vase indoors, and your whole room will be filled with a delightful, sweet aroma. No perfume can compete with this natural scent.
Fun fact: While Bridal Crown smells divine above ground, the bulb itself produces subtle compounds underground that animals like moles and mice can’t stand. You may not notice a thing, but they’ll do anything to stay away. So this narcissus acts as a natural pest repellent — beautiful and practical.
Combination tip: The fresh white blooms look stunning when paired with soft pink tulips.
Perfect spot: Narcissus bulbs thrive in full sun or partial shade. We recommend planting them together in a dedicated section of your garden for a stronger, more impressive effect, rather than scattering them individually.
3. A brand-new and exclusive tulip
At last, this beauty is available. After years of careful cultivation, the crop has finally grown large enough for us to share a limited number of bulbs. We are the only grower in the world producing this tulip variety.
Last year, she was officially named Charlize. When the blooms first appear, they are a soft creamy shade. As the flowers mature, they gradually turn to fresh white with a delicate pink edge. It remains a small miracle how Mother Nature can create something so refined.
