Dahlias are truly special flowers. Originally from Mexico, they love warmth and sunshine. Dahlias come in many shapes and colours. In our collection, you’ll find them in yellow, white, orange, purple, red and pink.
We offer a wide range of types, including ball, decorative, fimbriata, pompon, cactus and single-flowering dahlias.
Blooming time
Dahlias are summer flowers. They thrive in warm, sunny conditions, so be sure to plant them in a bright spot in your garden. You can plant your dahlias in spring, and they will bloom until autumn. Make sure to wait until all risk of frost has passed, as dahlia tubers are not winter hardy. In most places, this is around mid-May. From that point on, it’s safe to plant them outdoors. Dahlias continue blooming until the first night frost, which often arrives in October or November.
After the blooming season, it is a good idea to lift the tubers from the ground. If you leave them in and the soil freezes, the tubers may rot.

When to plant?
Our dahlias are available to order from 1 January until early June. During checkout, you can choose your preferred delivery month: March, April or May. Some gardeners like to start their dahlias early indoors, while others prefer planting them straight into the garden later in spring.
If you plan to plant them before April or May, it is best to pot them up indoors or in a greenhouse. Once they have grown and the weather has warmed, you can transplant them into the garden or a larger pot. If you receive your tubers in May, you can plant them directly outside.
How long before dahlias sprout?
Once planted, it takes about 18 days before you’ll see the first green shoots above the soil. Keep an eye out for slugs during this time, as they love to nibble on the tender new leaves.
Cutting back spent blooms
It is important to regularly remove faded flowers. Be sure to cut the stem as well, right down to the next leaf or the first new bud. This helps the plant direct its energy into forming new flowers, rather than producing seed heads. You can also pinch the plant early on to encourage more blooms. To do this, simply cut out the central shoot just above the third set of leaves. This will help the plant branch out and grow stronger stems, which means more flowers.

Cut flowers
Some dahlia varieties are especially suitable as cut flowers. Of course, you can cut and place any type of dahlia in a vase. However, the cut flower varieties we have selected have long stems, produce many blooms and also have a long vase life. Thanks to their length, these dahlias are perfect for making beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements. You can easily cut these flowers yourself and enjoy them in your home while creating your own lovely bouquets. This way, there’s no need to go to the florist. It is important to refresh the water regularly when keeping them indoors.
A few of our favourite cut flower dahlias include the Café au Lait dahlia, Dahlia Wizard of Oz and Jowey Winnie dahlia. The Café au Lait dahlia is a stunning, large dinnerplate dahlia. It has a soft beige tone and is very often used in bridal bouquets. Dahlia Wizard of Oz is also known as "the little wizard." This dahlia has a gentle pink colour and combines beautifully with other dahlias. The Jowey Winnie dahlia is a gorgeous pink ball dahlia. It’s becoming more and more popular and always looks beautiful in photos. Pompon dahlias are also perfect as cut flowers. Pompon dahlias are also perfect as cut flowers.
