Ammi Green Mist begins with lime green flowers that gradually open to green-white. The umbels resemble delicate lace, and the leaves look like feathers!

Bees and butterflies are drawn to them as well. Ammi is an ideal cut flower, fitting perfectly into any bouquet thanks to its neutral colour.

In English, it is also called "Queen Anne's Lace" or "Lace Flower," and in Dutch, this annual summer bloomer is known as white dill.

    Tips

    When to sow Ammi
    • Autumn sowing: From September–October. Plants sown in autumn develop longer stems (up to about 150 cm) and flower earlier in spring.
    • Spring sowing: From March–April, once the risk of frost has passed. Spring-sown plants usually reach about 80 cm in height.
    Sowing method
    • Direct sowing: Sow the seeds directly where the flowers should grow, as Ammi develops a taproot and doesn’t transplant well.
    • Sowing depth: Sow seeds shallowly and press them gently without fully covering – they need light to germinate.
    • Spacing: Avoid sowing too densely. Thin seedlings to 25–30 cm apart for good air circulation and growth space.
    • Germination temperature: Between 15–20°C. Germination usually takes 14–21 days.
    Location and soil
    • Light: Full sun ensures the best growth and abundant flowering.
    • Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil. Avoid wet or poorly draining soils, as they can cause root rot.
    Care
    • Watering: Water during dry periods, especially during germination and when plants are young.
    • Thinning: Ensure plants have enough space by thinning in time. This prevents overcrowding and encourages strong, healthy growth.
    • Support: Tall plants may need support to prevent falling over in strong wind or rain.
    Harvesting and drying
    • Cut flowers: Cut the flowers just after they fully open for best results in bouquets.
    • Drying: Hang the flowers upside down in a dry, airy place for dried arrangements.
    • Combining: Ammi pairs beautifully with flowers like cosmos, dahlias, and ornamental grasses for a natural, wild look.

How many seeds do you need per square meter?

Each packet contains enough seeds for about 1 square meter of flowers. This varies by species, so consider the mature plant size. A helpful tip: don’t sow all at once. Spread sowing over several moments to extend the blooming season and have a backup if the first sowing doesn’t succeed. A single seed can grow into a full plant, so give them enough space. Store seeds in a cool, dry place – they remain viable for 2 to 3 years.
