Cut flowers from your own garden with FAM Flower Farm
Cut flowers are simply flowers that you grow in your garden and then cut to make your own bouquets. Give your homemade bouquets as a gift or place them in a vase at home. How wonderful is it that those flowers come straight from your own garden? Not only do they bring colour to your garden, but they also brighten up your home.
Types of cut flowers
Cut flowers aren’t a specific flower type. It depends on the variety. At FAM Flower Farm you’ll find a range of dahlias, narcissus, tulips and flower seeds that are perfect as cut flowers.
Dahlia cut flowers
An example of a dahlia suited for cutting is ‘El Santo’, a pink bloom with a sweet look. Or go for the cheerful yellow ‘Jowey Martina’, a unique dahlia that adds an extra pop to both your garden and interior.
Narcissus cut flowers
Narcissus smell amazing indoors. Just keep in mind not to place them immediately with other flowers in the same vase. The sap released by narcissus can harm other flowers. Will you choose the classic ‘Martinette’ or the striking ‘Acropolis’?
The first cut flowers of the season are always the narcissus.
Tulip cut flowers
We offer tulips in a wide range of shapes and colours, many of which are perfect as cut flowers. A popular choice is the peony-style ‘Angelique’, stunning both in the garden and in the vase.
Cut flowers from flower seeds
It’s always amazing to see what grows from tiny seeds. They’re perfect for filling empty spots in your garden. The more you pick, the more they bloom. Most of our flower seed varieties are annuals, meaning you can try new flowers every year. All are suitable to enjoy indoors in a vase.
Cut flowers in your garden
By planting cut flowers in your garden, you’re creating your own picking garden. That might sound complicated, but with our easy flower varieties, even beginner gardeners can enjoy great results. Choose a sunny spot and dedicate a small area just for picking. Even a planter on your balcony can hold a lovely little cutting patch.
When to sow cut flower seeds
The best time to sow cut flowers depends on the type. Some varieties don’t tolerate cold well. Dahlias and flower seeds are best planted in May or June, while narcissus and tulips should be planted in October. Since they bloom at different times, planting all these types means you can enjoy flowers for up to eight months straight.
So many possibilities for cut flowers grown from seeds. Give it a try!
How to cut flowers
When your flowers are ready, use a sharp knife to cut the stems at an angle. This helps the flowers absorb water better and reduces the chance of bacteria and mould. Always use a clean vase, and you can add a drop of bleach if desired. That way, the flowers from your garden will thrive indoors too.
