Why choose yellow dahlias?

Thanks to their cheerful appearance, yellow dahlias are like festive decorations in your garden. They add sparkle and give a fresh touch to any space. Yellow dahlias are perfect for lovers of sunny garden borders. The color yellow is great for adding vibrant highlights. It brightens up every garden and bouquet! Some people find yellow to be a bold color, but it actually pairs well with others. Combine yellow dahlias with white dahlias, for example. Not a fan of yellow? Then perhaps the yellow-red dahlia Gloriosa will be more your style.

Types of yellow dahlias

Planting yellow dahlias brings joy and brightness to your garden. They bloom all summer long and even into fall. There are many types of yellow dahlias, such as the ball-shaped Jowey Martina, the large dinnerplate La Luna, and the ‘deer antler dahlia’ Caproz Josephine, among others! In our collection you’ll also find unique dahlias like white and pink dahlias. We offer more than 120 different dahlia tubers. Did you know there’s a difference between tubers and bulbs? Dahlia tubers are often called bulbs, but that’s not correct. Tubers produce more flowers than true bulbs. Some dahlias are also excellent pollinator plants, attracting bees and butterflies.

Planting yellow dahlias

From January 1 to June 1, our dahlia tubers are available for purchase. You can have them delivered to your home when you’re ready to plant. Want to start them early indoors? Have them delivered in April. Or choose a May delivery to plant them directly outside. Every order includes our FAM Magazine, packed with handy tips and inspiration.

You can plant yellow dahlias in your garden or in pots. Lower-growing dahlias are suitable for containers, while the taller varieties are ideal for cutting gardens thanks to their long stems and many blooms.

When planting yellow dahlias in the garden, make sure the soil isn’t too dry. Don’t plant the tubers too deep because they love warmth. We recommend planting them about 2 cm below the surface. The best planting time is mid May to mid June, and they’ll bloom from July until around October.

Caring for yellow dahlias

One of the best things about dahlias is that they require little care. Be sure to water them during dry periods. We recommend staking taller dahlias so they can withstand strong winds. You can also pinch them back to encourage a bushier shape and more blooms. Sadly, dahlias aren’t winter hardy, so they usually don’t survive the winter. However, if the winter is mild, there’s a chance they’ll make it. Want to keep them for next year? Be sure to dig them up before the first frost. Read more about dahlia overwintering here.
