Purple tulips from FAM Flower Farm

“Buy special purple tulips from our family farm in Lisse”

Purple tulip meaning

Purple represents spirituality and calm. It is also seen as an elegant, royal color. When you give someone purple tulip bulbs, you’re wishing them peace in their life. On top of that, purple tulips are truly unique. Fun to give and lovely to grow yourself.

Types of purple tulips

Purple comes in many shades. Take the deep purple tulip Paul Schrerer for example. It is so dark that it almost looks black. Did you know that true black tulips don’t exist? Growers have tried for years, but they haven’t succeeded yet.

If you’re not a fan of dark purple, the unique tulip Crunchy Cummins might be for you. This purple-pink fringed tulip changes color as it blooms. You’ll find this tulip exclusively at FAM Flower Farm.

Purple tulip Jinan, Crunchy Cummins and the very dark purple (black) tulip Paul Schrerer.

There are also different types of tulips, like single tulips and double tulips. The dark purple/red tulip Jinan is a beautiful peony tulip that also blooms for a very long time. A real asset to any garden.

Other tulip colors

Of course, you can choose to plant only purple tulips in your garden, but they also combine beautifully with other tulip colors. Try purple tulips with white, pink or red tulips. Or combine your tulips with dahlia tubers, flower seeds or narcissus bulbs. This way, your garden becomes a flower party that’s also great for nature.

Planting and caring for tulip bulbs

Planting and caring for tulips is not difficult. Plant the tulip bulbs in October or November about 15 cm deep and spaced apart. Water the surface after planting. Make sure the tulips are in a spot where they get plenty of sunlight. If autumn is dry, be sure to water the bulbs.

After the tulips have bloomed, they only need water if there is a long dry period.

Can tulip bulbs grow in pots?

Tulip bulbs grow very well in pots. It’s easiest to choose compact tulips so they stand firm in windy weather. When planting bulbs in pots, choose a deep pot with drainage holes.

When planting tulip bulbs in pots, space them 5 cm apart instead of 15 cm. This way you can plant more bulbs for an extra colorful result.

Tulip bulbs in a vase

You can leave the tulips in your garden or cut them to enjoy indoors. Cut the tulip stems at an angle and place them in a clean vase. Don’t place the vase near ripening fruit or in direct sunlight, drafts or other warm spots.

Ordering purple tulip bulbs

You can order purple tulip bulbs from July 1 to early December at FAM Flower Farm. Our tulip bulbs come directly from our own nursery and are delivered to your home when it’s time to plant them.
